Il y a près de trois ans, en avril 2006, l'Alliance virtuelle des Bibliothèques (AVL), à l'époque nommée la Second Life Library 2.0, ouvrait dans un petit bâtiment en location sur le Continent. Trois ans plus tard, grâce au travail de centaines de bénévoles de tous les coins du monde, l'AVL est un archipel comptant de plus de 50 îles comportant bibliothèques, lieux éducatifs, ossociations à but non lucratif et partenaires. C'est maintenant un service de référence avec plus de 300 questions par semaine, des collections et des expositions sur une grande variété de sujets, et les programmes, sessions de formation et qui alimente des discussions avec les résidents de Second Life. Dans Second Life, trois ans est une éternité, etc'est de cela qu'il est question pour tous les bénévoles qui ont construit et soutenu l'AVL. Le but de laa cérémonie "Une Nuit avec les Etoiles" du 7 Février 2009 était de reconnaître et de célébrer les nombreuses réalisations des personnes qui participent à l'AVL!
Samedi 7 Février, l'archipel de l'Alliance Virtuelle des Bibliothèques et le magazine RezLibris ont célébré les réalisations des bibliothèques et de l'éducation dans le monde virtuel de Second Life en 2008! Les lauréats ont reçu le prestigieux Golden Leaf conçu par Krull Aeon et pu profiter de la musique et danser sur la musique de Gabrielle Riel de Riel Radio.
Le prix "Golden Leaf" a été créé pour honorer les applications uniques et novatrices des bibliothèques en sciences, en éducation, et les partenaires qui soutiennent ces efforts. Dans l'espérance que la célébration inspire une nouvelle période de trois années de travail, de progrès et d'innovation pour l'AVL.

Part 1: Arriving at the Cinesphere: Pooky Amsterdam greeting attendees with the microphone and her quick wit... with everyone fighting lag as they make it along the red carpet to the wacky teleporter. Attendees who were recorded include: Krull Aeon for design and creation of the Golden Leaf Award and the beautiful building where the awards were held (see the end of part 6 for great shots of the building and interior). DaisyBlue Hefferman for the interior decoration of the building. Daisyblue's voice instructions for using voice/microphones were super too!

Part 2: Rocky Vallejo brought Western elegance to the podium as he introduced Abbey Zenith, Contributor of the Year. "She has held our hearts and our hands. ... She's a class act, that Abbey Zenith! ... and I am proud to call her my friend in this world and that fleshy other one." Lorelei Junot, Rocky Vallejo, Abbey Zenith, Puglet Dancer, Academic Librarian of the Year, introduced by Kitty Phillip, "When you hear her talking about Second Life in her workshops, you can just see people lighting up as she spreads the word." Sonja Morgwain, Library Mentor of the Year. Jeremy Kabumpo, LIS Educator of the Year. He is one of the great innovators. "Everyone knows Jeremy Kabumpo in Library Land and Education Land... He runs the first for credit library program here in Second Life."

That was clarified a little later Awardees: Pathfinder, Daisyblue Hefferman, Historical Sim Award, coordinated volunteers and has built a Lincoln era Whitehouse... "Land of Lincoln, a wonderful example of bringing history to life in Second Life." Bucky Barkley, Cool Tool Creator Award. "Bucky has generously given his time and he has developed a number of innovative educational tools and scripts. He is generous with these and shares them with our community. He has also built a number of wonderful sites on our islands." Rocky Vallejo, Collection Librarian of the Year. "He is the materials and the collection /organization behind the whole Infoisland group. Supporting education, Pathfinder Linden and Claudia Linden (Linden Library Champion Awards). Franja has been involved with it and managed it since the beginning - going on 3 years. Part 5: Maxito Ricardo receives the award for Book Discussion Leader of the Year (mystery discussions, Lincoln books, Investment InfoIsland and he does a great job.) "I'm sure a lot of people have attended yours and then learned techniques to go on and do their own." Diamond Coronet, Sim Manager Award of the Year. She came in and got involved... Renaissance Island is flourishing now. They are working to take over their own island now from Alliance. Stolvano Barbosa, Alliance Virtual Library Historian of the Year. He has been working to put together a history of the Alliance Virtual Library - on a wiki. Yea, Stolvano. Teofila Matova, Art Patronist of the Year. " Teo took over the art gallery and has consistently invited great artists to display on Info Island and plans wonderful events so that people can meet them and honor them." Rolig Loon, Advisor of the Year. "Rolig is involved in a number of different things in our group. Rolig manages 'Only Yesterday', 'Info International'. and people can talk to her about anything. She provides advice on the SLED list. She provides personal advice for people in Second Life and she keeps it confident. Rolig we are lucky to have you." And he is very patient..." designer/builder of the Cinesphere where the awards ceremony is taking place), Adiatha Bishop, Library Champion Award. He has an art gallery on Infotainment and is always supportive of our efforts and our programs. Volunteer Coordinator of the Year, Marimar Berchot. "She matches people up with what they would enjoy... and getting people for jobs we need to do. We have sooo many volunteers." I want to recognize Peaches Pessoa for her work on the Reference Wiki. Gabriel Riel, D.J. Award of the Year.. but she does so much more.... streaming, decorating. Writer of the Year, Dulcie Mills. She writes for the library column, RezLibris, Metaverse Messenger. Verde Otaared, takes pictures at events and works with Dulcie on stories and works with RezLibris. Troy McLuhan... everyone knows Troy McLuhan. Troy was one of the first people with the International Space Flight Museum. He is the founder of Science Center which is one of the biggest groups for Science in Second Life.
